Scary Rash!

I was getting my son ready for bed last night when I noticed a slight rash ranging from his genitals up towards his belly button, primarily on his left side.  Needless to say I partook of a sharp intake of breath whilst proceeding to examine him more closely and all over.  A wave of panic quickly mounted enveloping my brain and vision.  Desperately pressing the spots with my fingers they just did not appear to be blanching. 

It was 10pm when I bundled him into the car and took him to see the doctor.  A case of mommy overreacting??  Maybe.  But when it comes to my son and suspicious spots I'm erring on the side of caution.  A small part of me considered leaving things lie overnight just to see….  But at what cost potentially?  The sooner a serious illness (viral or otherwise) is detected the better chance a child has of overcoming.  Besides, I wouldn't have slept a wink.  As it turns out his affliction was nothing serious…..thankfully. 

Be ultra vigilant of your kids, both your own and those in your day care.  Give them the regular once overs and don't pay heed to those who sneer at your 'overreacting'.  Trust your instincts!
