When a parent is nervous about leaving their children with a new babysitter I've also found that it helps to suggest that they hire her to come at a time when they don't need to leave the house. For instance, they may hire her for two hours and plan to use the time to get things done around the house while the children are having fun with the babysitter. If they feel comfortable after seeing her interacting with the kids they may decide to leave and do some errands, but they aren't locked into doing that when initialing scheduling the babysitter.
