Unfortunate Effects of Childhood Obesity
No matter how we might try to sugarcoat it, childhood obesity is unhealthy. No matter where you look, you hear stories of how dangerous the epidemic is becoming. It's no surprise that when we have so many overweight children, people are terrified when they look towards the future. You don't have the power to solve this problem yourself. But if you have a child, stop a moment to consider his or her future.
We know that the effects of childhood obesity are very dangerous. Childhood obesity is linked to all sorts of diseases that usually plague adults. They can suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and high cholesterol.
Then there are the negative social effects of childhood obesity. Children at school can be very cruel sometimes. Any child who is overweight could easily become the butt of jokes. They are frequently teased and tormented.
This is no life for a child, who never seems to be accepted and is always made fun of. These children suffer daily as they are not chosen for sports teams, not invited to birthday parties, and not asked to the school dance because they are too 'fat.'
There may be hope. As more people realize the effects of childhood obesity, maybe we'll be able to work together to make a change for the better. But today, you can start with your own child when it's time for dinner. Teach your child about the different kinds of food, telling them what is and isn't healthy. In this way, you can help him or her form good eating habits for life. You'll be putting a stop to childhood obesity. Children look to their parents as teachers and examples to follow. It's up to you to teach him or her the right eating habits. As far as childhood obesity is concerned, your child needs you to give him or her a better way to live. It's up to you. Don't abandon your child to a life full of sickness and sorrow. Begin with your own child, and put an end to this childhood obesity epidemic.
